The optical scales mod. SLIDE are composed of two elements: the measuring scale and the reading head. The measuring scale is an extruded aluminum case which houses the optical glass. The reading head is mounted on a slider guided by small ball bearings. The Elbo Controlli NIKKEN optical glass is grinded in the upper part where the cursor micro-bearings slide.

The incremental reticle has a 20µm pitch and the zero point can be positioned with a 25mm pitch. The incisions on the optical glass are carried out in a vacuum-conditioned air-conditioned chamber by a photodeposition process in an environment saturated with chromium vapors. The electrical signal is generated by 5 photodiodes. The reading head has been designed to be easily mounted: the alignment tolerance is 1.5 mm.

Vibrations and stress due to mechanical processing are absorbed by a mobile system on springs. The watertight connector allows a quick replacement without having to remove the wired cables. During testing, each reading head is put through electrical and mechanical tests following a thermal cycle with temperatures between 25° C and 80° C, for a period of 24 hours (Burn-in test).

The ELBO CONTROLLI optical scales mod. SLIDE are available for lengths up to 3050mm. They also come in two different measurement resolutions (0.005mm 0.001mm) and in two versions of dimensions (37x22mm and 30x22 mm). The electrical signal output from the head consists of two 90 ° phase-shifted waves, square shape for the 0.005mm resolution, sinusoidal for the model with a 0.0001mm resolution. In this case it is necessary to mount an external unit in interpolation (exe) which provides the formation of the square signals. The zero scale signal is available on the two models (synchronized for the millesimal resolution) and can be positioned every 25mm of the measurement scale by moving the enabling magnetic reference.
