TID: unique tools identification in Industry 4.0

“Termo Stampi was founded in 1981 by Renato Terraroli, my grandfather and today led by my father Maurizio Terraroli. Termo Stampi immediately started to operate successfully by making injection molds for the household appliances and furniture sector.

In the following years, the company has also evolved in the Automotive sector, considered our sector of excellence and in the plastic molding sector (2K-3K-Gas), with the foundation of Termoplast "says Emanuele Terraroli, partner of Termo Stampi group of Rezzato (Brescia).

Thanks also to the technological push due to the increase in automation in production processes, known as Industry 4.0, the tools for transferring corrector data are now within everyone's reach. Using a simple computer network, necessary to carry out any operation within a company, the best system can be designed to put presetter machines and machining centers in communication.

"Automotive is a sector with high quality requirements, with increasingly shorter delivery times, and consequently requires a considerable effort in investments in personnel and machinery / equipment. For this reason, our mold construction division turned to Elbo Controlli NIKKEN who met our needs in terms of tool reset, reducing machine processing times and operator error" continues Terraroli.

WHY DID THE NEED AROSE TO LOOK FOR A TOOL OFFSET TRANSFER SYSTEM TO THE MACHINES?

"The TID tool identification system has allowed us to optimize production times, but above all to minimize the possibility of transcription errors by the operator. TID identifies the tools through a unique code (TID code), which associates all the technological data of the tool (radius correction, length correction, life, etc.); the operator measures the tool and then can decide on which machine tool it will be loaded."

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THE ELBO CONTROLLI NIKKEN TID SYSTEM?

“Elbo Controlli NIKKEN is a historic brand in Italy for the production and sale of pre-registration, measurement and tool inspection machines, commonly called presetters. During the MECSPE show in Parma, I visited their stand and discovered the tool identification system. After the first meeting, we made an appointment at our office with their local agent, to deepen the discussion and study an ad hoc solution for our needs. No sooner said than done."

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS YOU HAVE SEEN SINCE INSTALLING THIS SOLUTION?

“The most obvious advantage was the reduction in machine times. After the introduction of the TID system in our workshop, the preparation times have been halved, ensuring significant economic savings. But not only that: we have improved the performance of our production process, thanks to a drastic reduction in transcription errors. In addition, through an intuitive graphic interface, we have significantly reduced the possibility of error by the operator, with consequent advantages in the production phase."

ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH HOW ELBO CONTROLLI NIKKEN FOLLOWED YOU IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM?

“The flexibility of the TID system, Elbo Controlli NIKKEN's willingness to support us and fulfill our specific requests, were greatly appreciated. After more than 5 years from installation, we can consider TID to be a reliable, simple and intuitive system" concludes Marco Cima, production manager of the mold construction division.

Ease of use, information integration, data flow management are the guidelines that characterize the design of Elbo Controlli NIKKEN’s software: for clients who choose to partner with us, the result is the creation of integrated systems, which in turn can deliver a substantial increase in corporate productivity.
